Responsibility

So just like the old school days of G.I. Joe, the phrase knowing is half the battle is something most of us can agree on.  Nothing is more important than your health. So it’s with great excitement that I’m happy to say that The Beat is partnering up with the Maricopa County STD Clinic. I know what you’re thinking right off the bat- those three little letters- STD sound very, very scary and no one likes to talk about them. Here’s the thing though. What’s even scarier is not knowing whether or not you have one.
Sure you may have been safe and only have been sleeping with one person, but do you know if that person has only been sleeping with you? Or who they were with before you?

The statistics are scary, 1 in 4 people have an STD and up to 80% of people who have an STD don’t even know that they do. Because so many STD’s don’t have symptoms, the only way to know for sure is to get tested.

I know, it’s a very scary thought. I was even a little worried about it myself, but I can assure you it’s pain free and confidential. I would never tell you to do something that I wouldn’t be willing to do myself so I went and got myself tested last week.
It is a very easy process- I walked into the clinic (which is very nice and clean I might add- I was nervous it would be scary looking) checked in at the front desk and went into a waiting room to fill out a paper. The paper isn’t intrusive at all. They just need your basics in case they need to get a hold of you, which if they do they’re COMPLETELY CONFIDNTIAL about it. I filled out the form, met with a lady who gave me a number and I went and sat down. About 15 minutes later my number got called. I went into a test room, where I got some blood drawn (which was the most pain free blood drawing ever- it usually takes the nurse about 10 tries with a needles to find a vein) but the lady was quick and easy. She gave me a number to call on Monday and that was it.
I was able to call back today and got my test results –all negative in case you’re wondering- and it was that simple and easy. The best part about all of it is the peace of mind I have now.
So please, it’s quick and easy, and only $20, which for peace of mind is definitely worth it.

For more info you can check out their website at

We’ll also be talking to some of the doctors at the STD clinic so if there are any questions you want to ask them, please feel free to leave your comments I’ll be more than happy to ask them for you.
